Charles Iceland, CFA is an Associate with WRI’s People & Ecosystems Program. He recently completed work with several major multinational corporations, including Mondi, BC Hydro, Akzo Nobel, and Rio Tinto, to develop, road test, and apply the Corporate Ecosystem Services Review methodology.
He is currently working with the Puget Sound Partnership on a project to identify, through interviews with diverse stakeholder groups, the “most important” ecosystem goods and services provided by Puget Sound in order to help the Partnership: 1. Define what a “healthy Puget Sound” is; 2. Communicate the goals of the Partnership; 3. Prioritize indicators for measuring and monitoring the status of the Sound; 4. Prioritize strategies and actions for protecting and restoring Puget Sound by 2020. Summaries of this work can be found at:

He is author or contributing author of several publications, including The Corporate Ecosystem Services Review , Ecosystem Services: A Guide for Decision Makers , Trees in the Greenhouse: Why Climate Change is Transforming the Forest Products Business, and Reciprocity and Retaliation in US Trade Policy.
Charles previously worked at the World Environment Center, where he developed innovative supply chain environmental management pilot programs for Alcoa, Johnson & Johnson, Dow Chemical, and General Motors.
Prior to this, he worked at the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the United States House of Representatives, and the Institute for International Economics. He also worked in the banking and finance sector for several years and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Charles earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University. He lives in Bethesda with his wife Debbie, and sons Matthew and Josh.
