Abstract:
This dataset is a susbet of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) Land Cover Classification of the Global Land Cover Characteristics Database (GLCCDB) for North America and the Wider Caribbean. The GLCCDB data set is derived from 1-km Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data spanning a 12-month period (April 1992-March 1993). Seasonal land cover regions are aggregated (or renumbered) into the appropriate classes of the IGBP classification legend. Urban areas, are extracted from the Digital Chart of the World (Defense Mapping Agency, 1992).
Purpose:
This datset provides a 1-km classification of land cover. This dataset was extracted for the purposes of the Reefs at Risk in the Caribbean project (World Resources Institute, 2004 - <http://reefsatrisk.wri.org>) analysis of sedimetation from land-based sources.
