Transport Analyst/Engineer for Istanbul Program EMBARQ, The WRI Center for Sustainable Transport

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s Center for Sustainable Transport, which heads a global sustainable transport network, is seeking a transport analyst/engineer for its Istanbul Program. The successful candidate will report to the Istanbul Program Director, and will be responsible for managing the Bus Rapid Transit–BRT and other sustainable transport projects in Turkey. This position is based in Istanbul, Turkey.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Project Manager for the Turkish BRT and other sustainable transport projects in Turkey.
  • Lead Road Maps and the Value Assurance Review process.
  • Manage the relationship with the Municipality and all other relevant organizations (including the engineering companies) involved in the development and implementation of BRT project(s).
  • Manage BRT and other sustainable transport projects
    • develop the workplan and timeline;
    • identify required resources for the BRT and other sustainable transport project(s);
    • Draft terms of references (TORs and CTRs) for EMBARQ’s sub-grantees, consultants, and other contributing experts or partners for the Turkey BRT and other sustainable transport programs.
    • Develop and manage the Istanbul BRT and other projects budget and program plans.
    • Ensure project activities stay within budget.
  • Provide technical input into the development of the BRT system.
  • Liaise with EMBARQ core
  • Organize, facilitate and/or attend events that are relevant to EMBARQ’s Turkish BRT and sustainable transport programs.
  • Assist in the development of BRT and sustainable transport tools that could be applicable to partner cities and beyond in the region.
  • Write and review reports and evaluations on Istanbul BRT and sustainable transport activities and projects, coordinating with Istanbul Program Director and EMBARQ’s core staff.

Fundraising

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy to ensure successful participation of EMBARQ in the Istanbul ‘s BRT and sustainable transport projects.
  • Draft proposals for strategic partnership with potential donors to fund EMBARQ activities towards BRT and other sustainable transport projects; manage follow-up and follow-through.
  • Identify and contact potential funding organizations and partners to discuss opportunities for collaboration on BRT and other sustainable transport projects.
  • Contribute to reports for donors to EMBARQ Istanbul program.

Other Responsibilities

  • EMBARQ core resource as subject matter expert for BRT, traffic engineering and transport planning.

Qualifications

The position requires someone with some or all of the following qualifications:

  • Graduate degree, preferably in civil engineering, transport engineering, city planning, or related fields
  • Experience in transport and/or traffic engineering and planning, project management, and or public finance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and the Internet. Capability to learn and use software applications for transportation planning and engineering used by EMBARQ and WRI
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Turkish. Must be fluent in Turkish/possess bilingual fluency in Turkish and English.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, ability to conduct independent work and to work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines
