Social vulnerability reflects the capacity for communities to make informed decisions about mining projects. Many mining and exploratory concessions in Papua New Guinea overlap areas of high social vulnerability, especially in Western and Sandaun Provinces, where remote communities may be overwhelmed by the rapid changes brought by mineral development.
